Divergent, the first movie

I remember where I was the first time I heard about Divergent (the movie). Or maybe it was the second time? Anyways, I was in a bookstore with some friends. I didn't buy any books, I'm more of a movie person than a book person, but my friends did. I don't really read books, but I do, do some reading on blogs and other online reading. I saw a large poster that said Divergent on it. Generally on my horror movie blog, I post pictures of posters of the movie I'm posting about. I don't think I had mentioned that on this blog, so I just wanted to put that out there.
A poster for Divergent.
This movie I actually watched for the first time off of a paid
channel at home, rather than in the theaters. There are some movies that I watch, that I notice have actors or actresses from movies I have previously watched. Divergent wasn't one of them. I don't think I recognized anyone from anything else.
As far as the plot is concerned, I think it was great, I certainly wanted to see the second one. I'm glad that Tris started off living with the Abnegation and then moved over to Dauntless so that it gave me a taste of what multiple of the factions were like early on. There are some trilogies that have "an end" after each movie, while others sort of merge into one giant movie. The difference basically being the difference between the end of each Star Wars movie, and each Lord of the Rings movie. At any rate, I was noting that Divergent had an actually ending to it, when they defeated Jeanine Matthews of Erudite and removed the control she had over all of those people. Throughout the movie there were several scenes that were in people's head, or weren't entirely real. I like things like that in a movie. Below, I posted a picture that shows the 5 factions and their corresponding symbols since I mention them a few time I felt it would be good to be able to reference. I almost had the picture small, but I didn't thing some of the smaller print was entirely legible so I made it bigger.
I decide this picture was good reminder of which factions were which.
Right now I actually have the first the three on DVD. I don't have the last one since it hasn't come out yet. Later I'll probably do a post on at least one more of the movies.

Star Wars: Rogue one

As you know, if you follow my blog, I like to post
posters from the movie I'm blogging about.
I went and saw Rogue One since I'm a big Star Wars fan. I have them all on DVD. I tried not to mention anything that could be a spoiler since some people still haven't seen it yet. When I went and saw it, I absolutely loved it. It was actually surprised when Darth Vader was in it. It made perfect sense, I mean, this was after all right before A New Hope, so he was out there doing the terrible things that he did. But since A New Hope was filmed back in the 70's, I wouldn't have been surprised if it had just not shown him, and mentioned him as a side note. I know right before it came out, there were some people I know that wasn't sure how it was going to come out since it wasn't going to have any of the usual main characters in it, but that wasn't a problem for me. I still enjoyed it. I also love the effects with Grand Moff Tarkin and the younger Princess Leia. I watch a lot of movies, but I hadn't realized that technology had come that far. Especially since I've heard that Tarkin's original actor has been dead for a while now, and yet he appeared in the new movie. That's quite a momentous accomplishment. The end of it, I felt, really played right into the opening of A New Hope. And the showing of some charactors, even if they're some more or less minor ones (with the exclusion of Darth Vader and Princess Leia) added to the continuity between Rogue One and the rest of the movies.

I've got planned that once Episodes VIII and IX have come out, plus the other two movies which I'm not sure what they're going to be about, I'm going to start at Episode I and watch every single one of them in chronological order. Meaning in the order of Episodes I, II, III, Rogue One, Episodes IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, and finally IX, which hasn't come out yet. Obviously I'll revise this order depending on where the other two extra movies take place throughout the sagas. I felt like Rogue One turned out for the best, so I look forwards to where the other two movies take place. And I look forwards to seeing Episodes VIII (this year) and IX, but that goes without saying, right?

Jupiter Ascending

I saw Jupiter Ascending several months ago and I'm realizing now that I should've done a post on it at the time. I know some people have said some bad things about it, but I don't know what they thought was so bad about it. I loved it. But first, I should point out that this post will contain a lot of spoilers, so if you haven't seen it, I suggest you don't read it yet. You've been warned. I thought Mila Kunis was great in her role. Mila Kunis (Jupiter Jones) was born to two human parents and relatives, and yet she had the same exact DNA as someone completely not human. Isn't that itself ingenious? I thought it was a very interesting turn of events. Also, the fact that the House of Abrasax could produce immortality at the expense of some many lives. That's a major plot part right there. It starts off with an unethical but highly desirable process going on there. And that has to be addressed in the movie. I thought it was interesting who she turned out to be because it was rather unexpected.
"I love dogs, I've always loved dogs." I liked when she said that.
I thought that Jupiter and Caine's relationship was interesting because she didn't really know the relationships that she shouldn't have given her position, or much about him in general. On the other hand, he knew some about her and knew she was above his position.

Sometimes I think Mila Kunis, in this movie and others with her in it, looks similar to someone I know, but not always. Maybe it's that look she's giving in the above picture.

I thought the ending was interesting too. After all that, she still ends up doing something similar to what she was, only she chooses it and feels good about herself. That is, despite the fact that she's doing all this other stuff during the night and what not which is obviously different than the beginning of the movie.

I absolutely loved the piece where there was in a hidden facility on Jupiter. I've always thought something was hidden on Jupiter since it's clouds would hide anything and it does have a solid core despite what some people may think about it being entirely made of gas. For all we know, there's an alien civilization on Jupiter that has really dense bones, body and strong muscles to stand the high gravity, and they created the gas or strengthened it or something to keep them selves hidden with their superior technology. For all we know they remotely disabled NASA's cameras so that they wouldn't see anything, then turned it back on when they were done.
This is one of the few, if not the only, scene that had all three siblings in it.
Not knowing much about the siblings was kind of dangerous for Jupiter given all there power, but since they see their mother in her, their relationship with her could reveal their attitude towards Jupiter. Balem kind of a good example. Near the end of his mothers life, he didn't get along with her very well, and argued a lot. He wanted to kill Jupiter because she threatened his wealth and power. However, his relationship wasn't always bad with his mother. She groomed him as her replacement and they got along well. In fact, after a terrible fight in which he killed her, he regretted it later. In all actuality, he killed her because she asked him to. So he had mixed feelings for her over the years.
So that's what I thought about the movie. What did you think about Jupiter Ascending? Tell me what you did or didn't like about it.

The Hunger Games

Most of the time (in my other blog) I'm here to talk about horror movies. Today, I'm here to talk about a not-so-horror movie. (Unless you count the scene with the genetically enhanced bees). Today I'm here to talk about the movie probably most of you have heard of The Hunger Games (Part 1). Obviously The Hunger Games series is on its third movie, but I'm only going to be talking about the first part.
Here's a famous picture that pretty much everyone has seen, whether they watched the movie or not. Ask anyone and they'll recognize this picture.
Given what I know about the number 13, being bad luck and what it leads to in horror movies, it makes a lot of sense to me that there would be 13 districts. And that the 13th would get destroyed, because, when doesn't something happen to the 13th? That's why in 1408 there is 14 stories to the building, but no 13th floor. A lot of times when I watch a movie, I recognize several actors/actresses or at least one notable actor/actress. A good example of this is actually when I watch Jupiter Ascending, because I recognized Mila Kunis from Black Swan. In the Hunger Games, I didn't recognize any actors/actresses, that I remember. I went and saw it because I heard about how good it was and wanted to see it for myself. It was as good as it was depicted to me. I mean, sure at times I lost track of who had killed who, and who was left alive, but then again, who didn't? I thought that a piece got a little slow and boring in the capital, but it certainly wasn't once they made it to the forest and it was kill or be killed. I don't think there was quite as much done with the sponsor later in the movie as there should of, because it seemed minimal, despite how much emphasis was put on their importance earlier on. In general, I don't know how necessary the sponsors were anyways. Who ever had was going to get killed, would get killed, they just needed to make sure that it wasn't them. It was kill or be killed. It was interesting who Katniss and the other guy were going to kill themselves so there was a winner. Me, I'd be fine with taking my big fat check or whatever and going home as long as they wouldn't pick me again. However, no matter who is ruling, or whatever, there always has got to be someone who doesn't like the system, or wants something better or different. That's the rule, synergy and the like doesn't make a good movie. It leads to boring movies such as, well I can't name any movies off the top of my head like that, but you get the point. I guess I'm just good at picking out movies and never watch anything boring, maybe it's because a good portion of them are horror movies. With all that said, I just wonder what the next parts are going to bring. Will she just go home and them move on to the next Hunger Games? Will something else happen to prevent the next one? Will the next movie take place between now and then?

New Blog / Jupiter Ascending - Trailer - Feb 6

Well, I said I was going to start a new blog for other movies I watch aside from horror movies and here it is, so with out further ado, here is a post on the movie coming out February 6th of this year called Jupiter Ascending. This is the trailer.

The last movie I saw with Mila Kunis in it was Black Swan, and hopefully this will be good as that. (Maybe I should do a post on that movie...) Granted, that was a horror movie, but in that general ball park quality wise (maybe a little bit of horror?). The trailer looks very promising. February 6th, I'll be in the IMAX ready and waiting for the first showing. I'll do another post on this movie after I've seen it, so maybe February 7th or 8th.
